About this event

Rebecca Sieff Day

An inspiring day celebrating WIZO’s work, its founder and our dedicated supporters.

As we approach the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women later this month, we are delighted to have as our guest speaker Dr. Keren Gueta. Dr. Gueta is a senior lecturer in the Department of Criminology at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. Keren’s main research interest is domestic abuse, both victims and offenders. Her current research projects focus on cultural sensitivity perspectives of domestic violence.

Proceeds from this event will go towards WIZO’s Covid-19 emergency shelter for women and children.

WIZO’s shelters have always been a refuge for women and children living the terror of domestic abuse and violence. Today the strain of lockdown, with its financial pressures, has more than doubled the number of those knocking at our doors.

WIZO demonstrated its leadership and ability to react swiftly, in the face of the Covid restrictions, by opening a new emergency shelter and creating an additional secure place for those in urgent need, ensuring existing shelters remain a safe space during the pandemic. This shelter contains 12 separate family units, enabling quarantined or sick women to be separated from other women, whilst still in a protected and monitored environment.

WIZO is committed to providing the women and children who come to this shelter with services and conditions that will contribute significantly to their wellbeing, the beginning of their recovery from the horrific trauma of severe domestic abuse and violence and opening the door to a new beginning.

WIZO needs your help to ensure we are able to support real needs at this critical time. Your donations will:

• Buy furnishings for the family units.

• Pay for small electrical appliances for cooking and keeping warm during the winter.

• Provide fresh, clean linen and towels for each woman and child.

• Guarantee women and children have clothes, shoes and toiletries.

• Supply necessary medication

• Purchase the children's school books.

• Supply games, toys and arts & crafts materials to bring joy to the children.

• Contribute to the needs of mothers and children when they leave the shelter for new beginnings.
